Gen.G.E. Sports will challenge to win "four consecutive championships," which no team in the history of LoL Champions Korea (LCK) has achieved.

Gen.G.E. Sports will play against D-Plus Kia in the second round of the "2024 LCK Spring" playoff at Roll Park in Jongno-gu, Seoul, at 5 p.m. on the 3rd.

Gen.G wants to win 4 consecutive games

After the first round of the playoffs, Gen.G.E. Sports chose D-plus Kia. The reason why Gen.G.E. Sports chose D-plus Kia is simple. The two teams are in a terrible relationship. Gen.G.E. Sports has been on a 12-game winning streak against D-plus Kia.

Since spring 2022, Gen.G.E.S. has never lost since it met DePlus Kia. It has 10 consecutive wins against DePlus Kia in the regular league, and also won the 2022 spring playoffs with a set score of 3-2. In the same year, it met in the quarterfinals of the LoL World Championship and won after a full set battle. Although Gen.G.S. had lost the set to DePlus Kia for two and a half years, it recorded 12 consecutive wins while securing the final victory.

However, Gen.G.E. Sports should not overlook some areas. During multiple championships, the two teams always fought hard to reach the full set. DePlus Kia is not an easy opponent, as it has been neck-and-neck in both matches of the spring regular season.

The relationship between the two teams with 'Canion' Kim Geon-bu between them is also a point to watch.

The match between Gen.G.E. Sports and D Plus Kia is called the Canyon Derby. Kim Geon-bu was the franchise star of D Plus Kia. The centerpiece of the Damwon Dynasty, which won the 2020 Worlds, was Kim Geon-bu and Showmaker Heo Soo. Kim Geon-bu was so iconic that it was hard to imagine him playing in another uniform.

However, Kim transferred to Gen.G esports in a surprise move ahead of the upcoming season. This contrasted with Huh's three-year contract renewal with Dplus Kia. Kim once told Cookie News, "It was painful and sad, but I needed more emotions than comfort. I wanted to experience something new."

After moving to Gen.G.E. Sports, Kim showed off his strong performance. With 1,000 POG points, Kim stands tall as the core axis of Gen.G.E. sports by ranking third overall and first in the jungle position.

If Gen.G.E. Sports, which has Kim Gun-bu, catches D-plus Kia and goes to the third round of the playoffs, it can take a step closer to its new history of winning LCK four times in a row.

T1 and Hanwha Life e-Sports, which were neck and neck

T1 and Hanwha Life e-Sports showed signs of being so tight that it was hard to determine the superiority or inferiority in the regular spring league. Both teams had 15 wins and 3 losses, but T1 was ahead of Hanwha Life e-Sports by five points in set gains and losses, and acquired the direct ticket to the second round of the playoffs.

The two teams had one win and one loss in this spring as well. In the first round, T1 won with the power of upper body including "Jews" Choi Woo-je and "Owner" Moon Hyun-jun, while in the second round, Hanwha Life e-Sports won the set score 2-1, ending their showdown with one win and one loss each. T1 and Hanwha Life e-Sports have had two best-of-five matches. In 2021, they faced off at the LCK national team selection match and the World Cup quarterfinals, and both times, T1 won.

Interestingly, three of the members of Hanwha Life e-Sports have experience in catching T1 several times in the playoffs wearing the uniforms of Gen.G e-Sports in the 2023 season. Top liner "Doran" Choi Hyun-joon, Jungler "Peanut" Han Wang-ho and supporter "Delight" Yoo Hwan-joong played as the main players when Gen.G. swept Spring and Summer in 2023 and beat T1 every time in the final.

If the three transfer players, who are showing the same skills as in previous years even after wearing Hanwha Life e-Sports' uniforms, do their part, there is a possibility that they will catch T1 in the multi-player match. 스포츠토토티비
